GUELFI, FROGS AND PANTHERS DOMINATE, AQUILE TRIUMPH IN OVERTIME

Week 10 of the IFL crowns Florence, Legnano, and Parma, while Ferrara defeats the Giaguari in a thrilling finale

An intense week for the Italian Football League, which returned to action after the long Easter break and the National Team commitments. Three out of four games ended under the running clock rule, highlighting the clear dominance of Guelfi Firenze, Frogs Legnano, and Panthers Parma. Only the matchup between Aquile Ferrara and Giaguari Torino needed overtime to determine the winner, delivering excitement and spectacle until the very end. Here’s the recap of Week 10.

Aquile Ferrara vs Giaguari Torino 26-20

At Mike Wyatt Field in Ferrara, the Aquile completed a spectacular comeback against the Giaguari Torino, prevailing in overtime after trailing 13-0 at halftime. A scoreless first quarter was followed by two touchdown passes from Evan Lewandowski, completed by Giovanni La Rocca and Tommaso Tenconi, with Jacopo Salsa converting one of two extra points. In the second half, Filippo Franco scored on a rushing touchdown, with Jacopo Bindini adding the extra point. The Giaguari responded early in the fourth quarter with another personal play by Lewandowski, once again converted by Salsa. However, Lewandowski’s injury changed the game’s momentum: Aaron Allen threw two consecutive touchdown passes to Matteo Medini and Leonardo Pasquotto, tying the game (with only one extra point good). In overtime, Alessio Antolini’s pick six sealed the win for Ferrara, propelling the Aquile to third place in Group B.

Frogs Legnano vs Lions Bergamo 61-14

As expected, the Frogs dominated at the Velodromo Vigorelli in Milan, overwhelming the Lions Bergamo with a commanding performance. Luke Zahradka threw seven touchdown passes: Niccolò Pulsinelli, Riccardo Scrudato, Dayan Almeida, and four times to Danny Kittner, who also caught a final touchdown pass from backup quarterback Alessandro Zerbo. The Lions managed to score twice with Jay Butterfield’s touchdown passes to Tommaso Moro and Giovanni Zani. Legnano thus resumes their playoff chase, while Bergamo remains winless.

Guelfi Firenze vs Lazio Marines 49-17

At the Guelfi Stadium in Florence, the Group B leaders continued their flawless run, achieving their eighth consecutive victory and maintaining their unbeaten record. The Tuscan offense wasted no time, with Andrea Fimiani connecting with Eystin Salum for a touchdown pass, followed by three rushing touchdowns by Fimiani himself and a powerful 60+ yard run by Matteo Bellesi. Fimiani struck again with a second touchdown pass to Frankie Stola. The Marines fought back with a field goal by Jacopo Impallomeni and two touchdowns through the Josiah Norwood–Zane Jacob Thornton connection, but another Fimiani–Salum touchdown in the third quarter put the game beyond reach. The Guelfi remain unstoppable and firmly in command of Group B.

Panthers Parma vs Rhinos Milano 40-0

Another one-sided affair saw the Panthers Parma dominate the Rhinos Milano at home. Two touchdown passes from Robert Patterson to Rocco Bonvicini and Tommaso Finadri, both successfully converted by Pasquale Bitondi and Matteo Felli, opened the scoring, followed by a Bitondi field goal to close the first half at 30-0. In the second half, with Tommaso Monardi at quarterback, Federico Cristanini rushed into the endzone, with another successful PAT by Felli. The final stages featured younger players, with Pietro Rizzi (class of 2007) leading a drive capped by a 31-yard field goal by Felli. With this win, the Panthers strengthen their position in Group A, while the Rhinos face a challenging end to the season.

Standings:

  1. Frogs Legnano 6-1
  2. Dolphins Ancona 5-1
  3. Panthers Parma 6-2

Italy’s race to Toledo is on

The Italian Bowl makes its return to the University of Toledo’s Glass Bowl on June 28, following the success of the 2023 championship game held in the Glass City.

On July 1, 2023, the Italian Bowl XLII took place at the Glass Bowl as the first Italian Bowl played outside of Europe. Tens of thousands of fans participated in the advance and game-day festivities in Toledo while many more streamed the game both in the United States and Italy.

There are currently 12 teams in the Italian Football League vying for their chance to compete in the title game. The IFL is broken up into two groups, with the top three teams from each group qualifying for the playoffs at season’s end the weekend of May 24 and 25.

With the season having passed the midway point, a few of the teams have emerged as more serious contenders.

Here’s a detailed look at five of the IFL’s top teams that could be in Toledo come June:

Firenze Guelfi (7-0)

Firenze is averaging 50.6 points and has done it without a field goal so far on the season. The Guelfi have only punted nine times through the first seven games. They have accumulated 51 touchdowns, which is almost as many as the next two teams combined (59).

Quarterback Andrea Fimiani is the straw that stirs the drink for the Guelfi, as he has amassed 1,029 yards rushing through seven games. Fimiani is the first quarterback in league history to top 1,000 yards rushing. He is no stranger to Toledo, having played in the 2023 Italian Bowl.

A top target for Fimiani is wide receiver Frank Stola, who played at NCAA Division III Williams College. He leads the league in scoring and receiving touchdowns. Stola holds six school receiving records from his time at Williams.

Defensively for Firenze, Colin Schooler leads the league in tackles and tackles for loss. He played at Arizona, winning Pac-12 freshman of the year, and then at Texas Tech. He participated in the XFL/United Football League in 2023 and 2024.

Ancona Dolphins (5-1)

Ancona will be looking to make its first Italian Bowl.

The Dolphins own the No. 1 rushing offense and No. 2 scoring defense in the IFL. Also, they have the No. 2 passing offense that has given up the fewest sacks.

Signal caller Blake Robert Eaton is league’s top passer. Eaton played at Division III Linfield University, where as a senior he passed for 1,620 yards with 20 TDs to just seven interceptions in seven games.

The Dolphins’ top receiver is Tyler Terhark — also one of the league’s best punt returners. Terhark played in college at FCS power North Dakota State.

Legnano Frogs (5-1)

Legnano is a frequent representative in the Italian Bowl. The Frogs have made 11 appearances in the big game, recording six wins.

They boast the league’s best total defense (nine TDs allowed) and passing defense.

Dan Kittner is an all-purpose athlete for the Frogs’ offense. He leads the league in receptions (60) and receiving yards (773), adding 271 yards on the ground, which is the fifth-best mark in the IFL.

Kittner starred at Division II University of Mary in college, where he logged 291 catches, 3,651 yards, and 29 TDs and was a first team All-American. He got an invite to the Chicago Bears minicamp after his time at the University of Mary.

Quarterback Luke Zahradka is a two-time Italian Bowl MVP. He is the league leader in passing, completing 125 of 177 passes (70.6 percent) with 1,533 yards and 14 TDs. Zahradka has been considered one of the top quarterbacks in Europe for years.

Parma Panthers (5-2)

The Parma Panthers were victorious over the Firenze Guelfi 29-13 the last time the Italian Bowl was held in the Glass City. Parma, in fact, has become sort of a mainstay in the game, winning the past two titles and three of four overall.

The Panthers have won the second-most Italian Bowl titles, winning seven to the Bergamo Lions’ 12.

Guiding the Panthers is head coach Brian Michitti, a Fairfield, Ohio, native who played at Hanover College in Indiana.

Parma maintains the No. 2 scoring offense, averaging 35 points per game.

Defensively, they allow fewer than 15 points per game, which is good enough for third in the league in scoring defense. The Panthers are first in sacks with 20 on the season.

Dominick Fiscelli is third in the IFL in rushing with 393 yards on 39 attempts (10.1 yards per rush) and three TDs. He is a Utica, Mich., native who played D-II college football for Saginaw Valley State and Northern State.

QB Robbie Patterson, who was a key piece in Parma’s run to the 2024 title, has thrown for 14 TDs to just two interceptions through seven games this season.

Torino Giaguari (4-2)

Fairly new to the IFL scene, having been promoted to Italy’s highest level of football competition in 2023, the Giaguari are having a breakout season this year.

Torino is third in the league in scoring at 30.8 points per game and second in total offense. A catalyst for the Giaguari on offense is QB Evan Lewandowski, who is fourth in the league in passing, completing 74 of 140 passes (52.9 percent) for 1,266 yards and 15 TDs.

Lewandowski is also third in the IFL in passing efficiency. In 2019 at Wisconsin-La Crosse, he tied the NCAA D-III record with nine passing TDs in a game. Lewandowski spent his final two years of eligibility at Wisconsin-Whitewater and spent some time in Arena Football One, the successor of the Arena Football League.

IFL WEEK 9: THE WIND SHIFTS IN GROUPS A AND B

Wins for Dolphins, Panthers, Marines, and Skorpions. Defenses shine in Ancona, while comebacks and surprises steal the spotlight in Rome and Albisola.

Week 9 of the Italian Football League confirms just how unpredictable and hard-fought this season really is. The Dolphins Ancona claimed a low-scoring battle against the Frogs Legnano to take the top spot in Group A. In Bologna, the Panthers Parma cruised past the Warriors, while in Rome the Lazio Marines stunned the Giaguari Torino with a solid all-around performance. The weekend concluded with the Skorpions Varese dominating a heavily depleted Pirates team on the road.

🐬 Dolphins Ancona vs Frogs Legnano 7-0

A classic, old-school game in Ancona, where defense ruled from start to finish. The two teams battled evenly until the third quarter, when Blake Eaton connected with Tyler Terhark for the game’s only touchdown, followed by a successful PAT from Matteo Dazzani. The rest was a fierce defensive duel, with the Dolphins stopping the Frogs twice inside the red zone and forcing quarterback Luke Zahradka into his first interception of the season. Both teams missed a field goal, keeping the score unchanged. After beating the Panthers and now the Frogs, Ancona rises to the top of Group A thanks to point differential, reigniting their push for first place.

🐾 Warriors Bologna vs Panthers Parma 12-50

Everything went according to script in Bologna, where the Panthers steamrolled the Warriors, closing the first half with a commanding 35-6 lead. Parma opened with a TD pass from Robert Patterson to Marian Cebotaru, followed by a PAT from Matteo Felli. Bologna responded with a defensive TD from Manuel Masi on a fumble return, but failed the conversion. From there, it was all Panthers: two more TD passes by Patterson (to Dominick Fiscelli and Carlo Tassan), a strike from Tommaso Monardi to Dario Zatti, a rushing score by Jaylin Parnell, and additional touchdowns by Zatti and Federico Cristanini. The Warriors scored one more late on a pass from Giacomo Cavrini to Emenge Bomiya. The only downside for Parma: a serious injury to Luca Brighenti. We wish him a full and speedy recovery.

Lazio Marines vs Giaguari Torino 23-20

A hard-fought, valuable win for the Marines, who took down the Giaguari with a stellar defensive effort and a revitalized Josiah Norwood. After a scoreless first quarter, Norwood ran in the first TD, and Jacopo Impallomeni added the PAT and a field goal for a 10-0 lead. Torino responded with a TD pass from Evan Lewandowsky to Luciano Giuliani, but Rome widened the gap again with a TD pass from Norwood to Isaiah Dunn. Jacopo Salsa scored for the Giaguari in the second half, but two more field goals by Impallomeni kept the Marines ahead. Giuliani scored his second TD with just three minutes left, but a missed PAT kept Rome in front by 3. The Marines managed the clock and sealed their second win of the season.

🦂 Pirates 1984 Albisola vs Skorpions Varese 14-38

The Skorpions bounced back from their loss to the Aquile with an emphatic win over the undermanned Pirates. Quarterback shortages forced Albisola to improvise, starting wide receiver Andrea Fiammenghi under center. Varese took full advantage: Hamish McClure threw two early TD passes to Andrea Volonnino, both converted by Stefano Granelli. The Pirates struck back with scores from Giacomo Querzola and Stefano Raffaelli, but Varese closed the half strong with TDs from Luca Tovaglieri and Volonnino again. The Skorpions’ lead grew in the third quarter thanks to a Nicolò Gaspari rushing TD and a field goal by Granelli. Fiammenghi, playing out of position, managed to score on a short run, and Raffaelli added the PAT, bringing the game to 38-14—where it would stay. With this win, the Skorpions move past the Aquile into third place in Group B with a 3-4 record.

IFL WEEK 8: THE CONTENDERS DELIVER, FERRARA MAKE NOISE

Dominant wins for Guelfi and Panthers; Aquile overpower Skorpions; Rhinos back on track with victory in Bologna.

Week 8 of the Italian Football League confirmed the current hierarchy at the top of Group B, with Guelfi still unbeaten and dominant, while also delivering decisive results in the race for the playoffs and the battle to avoid relegation. Aquile Ferrara crushed Skorpions Varese, reigniting their postseason ambitions, while Rhinos Milano earned a crucial road win in Bologna to even out their season record. It was an easy day at the office for Panthers Parma, who overwhelmed Lions Bergamo, while Pirates Albisola S. suffered another heavy defeat—both in score and in standings implications.

Warriors Bologna vs Rhinos Milano 7-20

A much more balanced game than expected, with the two teams neck-and-neck until the final quarter. The Rhinos struck first, capitalizing on an interception by Bruno Escobar that led to a touchdown run by Modeste Pooda, followed by a PAT from Giacomo Sarra. The Warriors responded in the second quarter with a great play by Gael Laurent and an extra point from Andrea Bello. Just before halftime, Rhinos regained the lead with a touchdown run from QB Marquez McCray and another successful kick from Sarra. The third quarter saw strong defensive play on both sides and no scoring. In the final stretch, McCray found Jordan Bouah in the endzone for the game-clinching touchdown—Bouah’s final appearance in the IFL before joining the Rhein Fire in the ELF. With this result, Rhinos improve to 3-3, while Bologna remains stuck at 1-5.

Aquile Ferrara vs Skorpions Varese 42-14

Ferrara got their revenge in style, handing Varese a harsh defeat. After promising offensive performances against Guelfi and Marines, the Skorpions failed to repeat, largely due to a well-prepared Ferrara defense that shut them down, combined with an off day for QB Hamish McClure. The game was evenly matched until halftime, which ended with Ferrara leading 13-7. In the second half, the home team shifted gears with an MVP-caliber performance by Percy King, who scored four touchdowns (two rushing, one receiving, and one pick six). Ferrara added 14 points in the third quarter and 15 more in the fourth, allowing just one more touchdown in return. A resounding result that keeps Ferrara in the playoff picture and dims Skorpions’ hopes.

Pirates 1984 Albisola S. vs Guelfi Firenze 7-49

One-sided from the outset in Albisola, with Guelfi taking immediate control by scoring 21 points in the first quarter thanks to three touchdown passes from Andrea Fimiani to Frankie Stola, Giacomo Mibelli, and Eystin Salum, all capped by perfect PATs from Cosimo Camilli. On defense, Guelfi were unstoppable, with Collin Schooler leading the charge and adding a pick six just before halftime. The first half ended 42-0 with the mercy rule in effect. In the second half, Guelfi rotated in their backups: Salum took over at QB and threw another touchdown pass to Stola. Pirates salvaged some pride with a late score from Andrea Fiammenghi on a pass by David Baca Ugalde. Guelfi remain unbeaten atop Group B (7-0), while Pirates must now prepare for a crucial relegation clash against the Skorpions.

Panthers Parma vs Lions Bergamo 40-7

No trouble at all for the reigning Italian champions, who closed the game early by racking up 30 points in the first quarter. Dominick Fiscelli scored on a rushing play, followed by touchdown receptions from Tommaso Finadri, Dario Zatti, and Rocco Bonvicini, on passes from Robert Patterson and Tommaso Monardi. Pasquale Bitondi was flawless on extra points, and the defense capped off the quarter with a safety. Before halftime, Parma extended the lead with another TD pass from Monardi to Marian Cebotaru and a field goal from Bitondi, entering the break up 40-0. In the fourth quarter, Lions finally got on the board with two touchdown passes from Jay Butterfield, only one of which was converted. Panthers improve to 4-2, while Lions remain winless at 0-6.

IFL WEEK 7: GUELFI AND DOLPHINS SHINE, RHINOS AND SKORPIONS BACK IN THE RACE

The Italian Football League hits the halfway point with a weekend full of excitement. Guelfi Firenze dominate the showdown against Giaguari Torino to take sole possession of first place in Group B. Dolphins Ancona edge the reigning champions at the buzzer and move up to second in Group A. Rhinos Milano and Skorpions Varese return to winning ways, reigniting their playoff hopes.

Week 7 marks the end of the regular season’s first half, and it certainly lived up to expectations. The top matchups in Florence and Ancona showcased some of the best football of the season, with high-level performances, drama, and late-game heroics. Guelfi and Dolphins confirmed their status as title contenders, while Rhinos and Skorpions earned crucial wins to stay in the playoff hunt. As the league heads into the second half of the season, everything is still up for grabs.

GUELFI FIRENZE vs GIAGUARI TORINO – 55-28

Guelfi Firenze dominated the battle for first place in Group B with another explosive offensive display, this time matched by a decisive defensive performance. Giaguari struck first with a touchdown pass from Evan Lewandowski to Tavion McCarthy (PAT by Jacopo Salsa), but Firenze immediately answered with a score from Andrea Fimiani to Matteo Bellesi, followed by the extra point from Francesco Camorani. After a 7-7 first quarter, the Guelfi took control: a 1-yard rushing TD by Collin Schooler, two touchdown passes from Fimiani to Frankie Stola, another rushing TD by Fimiani, plus two-point conversions by Fimiani and Schooler, and another PAT by Camorani. The Giaguari tried to keep pace with a long TD pass from Lewandowski to Salsa, who also made the extra point, but the 35-14 halftime score was already a gap too wide. In the third quarter, Fimiani found Stola again for six more, and Eystin Salum sealed the deal with a pick six, both PATs good by Camorani. Lewandowski and Salsa connected once more, but it was too late. Fimiani added another rushing touchdown before Lewandowski threw his fourth of the game to Andrea Serra. Firenze remains undefeated and comfortably atop Group B, scoring over 50 points for the third time this season.

DOLPHINS ANCONA vs PANTHERS PARMA – 27-24

A thrilling contest in Ancona saw the Dolphins take down the defending champions with a game-winning field goal just six seconds from the end. The Panthers started strong with a TD pass from Robbie Patterson to Marian Cebotaru, converted by Matteo Felli. But in the second quarter, Ancona flipped the script: Blake Eaton hit Tyler Terhark to tie it, then found Federico Orlandini for the go-ahead score, with Cristiano Brancaccio perfect on both PATs. A key forced fumble by the Dolphins defense on their own goal line preserved the 14-7 lead going into halftime. In the third, the Panthers tied it with Patterson connecting with Dominick Fiscelli, but Ancona answered with Eaton hitting Ennio Iudicone. Patterson-Fiscelli struck again early in the fourth to level the score at 24, but Ancona’s final drive was textbook. They methodically moved into field goal range, and Brancaccio nailed the game-winner. The Dolphins overtake Parma in the standings, securing second place in Group A behind the still-undefeated Frogs.

LIONS BERGAMO vs RHINOS MILANO – 10-34

The Rhinos returned to winning ways after three straight losses, taking down the still-winless Lions Bergamo in convincing fashion. Marquez McCray opened the game with a 70-yard touchdown run, followed by a pick six from Bruno Escobar, both PATs by Giacomo Sarra. In the second quarter, McCray added another rushing touchdown and Sarra remained flawless at the foot. The Lions finally responded before halftime with a TD pass from Jay Butterfield to Giovanni Zani, converted by Pierangelo Galbiati. The second half saw tighter defense from both sides. Galbiati kicked a field goal to bring it to 21-10, but Jordan Bouah scored on the ground for Milano, and the final nail came with a TD pass from McCray to Escobar, both scores converted by Sarra. Rhinos now stand 2-3, holding onto fourth place in Group A.

LAZIO MARINES vs SKORPIONS VARESE – 12-41

The Skorpions Varese continued their strong form following last week’s close loss to the Guelfi, dominating the Lazio Marines on the road and keeping their playoff hopes alive. Quarterback Hamish McClure was unstoppable, throwing five touchdown passes—two to Andrea Volonnino, one each to Martino Piazzi, Matteo Rai, and Roberto Zanovello. Dylan Auriemma added a 3-yard rushing touchdown to cap off the offensive showcase. The Marines never found a way to break through the aggressive Skorpions defense, managing only two field goals by Jacopo Impallomeni and a late TD pass from Josiah Norwood to Adalberto Rinaldi. With this win, Varese climbs to third in Group B and reasserts itself as a serious playoff contender.

IFL WEEK 6: GUELFI AND FROGS DOMINATE, FIRST WIN FOR THE AQUILE

Florence and Legnano remain unbeaten and extend their lead at the top of their respective groups. Solid performance by the Dolphins against the Lions, while Ferrara celebrates its first home win.

Week 6 of the Italian Football League confirmed the leadership of the Guelfi Firenze and Frogs Legnano, both claiming resounding victories that cement their first-place positions in their respective groups. The Dolphins Ancona took full advantage of home field and overwhelmed the Lions, while the Aquile Ferrara finally found joy with their first win of the season, defeating the Pirates and unlocking their standing in the rankings.

DOLPHINS ANCONA VS LIONS BERGAMO 48-14

Second consecutive home win for the Dolphins, who routed the Lions with a convincing performance. Blake Eaton was once again the engine of the Marche offense, throwing five touchdown passes (to Flamini, Orlandini, Terhark, Iudicone, and Dazzani). The scoreboard also saw two field goals and six extra points (converted by Dazzani and Ballarini). The Lions tried to fight back with the Butterfield-Zani duo, but Ancona’s superiority was clear. With this win, Ancona stays among the leaders in Group A, while Bergamo suffers their fourth straight loss.

WARRIORS BOLOGNA VS FROGS LEGNANO 0-55

Complete domination by the Frogs, who close the first half of the season unbeaten and without mercy for the Warriors. A textbook performance, with six touchdown passes split between Luke Zahradka and Alessandro Zerbo—four of them caught by the unstoppable Danny Kittner, the others by Niccolò Pulsinelli and Lorenzo Masini. Masini also excelled with perfect kicking and added a defensive pick-six. The game, played on a muddy field, was never in doubt, and the black-and-silver side controlled every phase. The Frogs continue to look extremely solid, while the Warriors must use the upcoming break to regain balance and confidence.

AQUILE FERRARA VS PIRATES 1984 ALBISOLA 35-14

First win of the season for the Aquile, who overcame the Pirates with a steadily improving performance. After a scoreless first quarter, Ferrara pulled away in the second with two touchdown receptions by One Williams from Aaron Allen, followed by extra points from Jacopo Bindini. The Pirates responded with two TD passes from Jordy Baidal (to Michelangelo Delfino and Matteo Fusetti), tying the game early in the second half. But in the fourth quarter, Ferrara’s defense and special teams took over: interceptions by Percy King, Sebastiano Pascolo (returned for a touchdown), and Andrea Fantin, plus a rushing TD from Williams and two more kicks from Bindini sealed the victory, putting the Aquile back in the Group B race.

SKORPIONS VARESE VS GUELFI FIRENZE 53-70

Unprecedented fireworks at the Mario Porta Sports Center in Vedano Olona, where the Guelfi and Skorpions put up a combined 123 points, possibly making it one of the highest-scoring games in recent IFL history. On one side, Hamish McClure threw 4 touchdown passes (2 to Andreda Volonnino and 2 to Matteo Rai), ran for 2 more, and added a kick-off return touchdown by Roberto Zanovello. On the other, Andrea Fimiani was a force of nature with 6 TD passes (3 each to Frankie Stola and Eystin Salum) and 3 rushing touchdowns, including an 80-yard sprint. Florence emerged victorious thanks to an unstoppable offense and two key second-half interceptions (by Christian Sottura and Salum), retaining the top spot in Group B ahead of a crucial showdown with the Giaguari. For Varese, the loss does not diminish their offensive talent but highlights urgent defensive adjustments.

IFL WEEK 5: FROGS AND GIAGUARI REMAIN UNDEFEATED, PANTHERS DOMINATE THE DERBY

Legnano and Torino continue their run at the top of their respective groups, while the Panthers crush the Warriors in the rain. First seasonal victory for the Marines.

Week 5 of the Italian Football League (IFL) delivered another weekend of excitement and hard-fought games. The Frogs Legnano confirmed their dominance in Group A, while the Giaguari Torino won a tough matchup and remain undefeated in Group B. No problems for the Panthers Parma, who dominated the Emilia derby against the Warriors. The Lazio Marines secured their first win of the season, narrowly defeating the Aquile Ferrara.

Here’s the recap of Week 5.

FROGS LEGNANO VS RHINOS MILANO 35-14

The Frogs Legnano remain unbeaten and strengthen their lead in Group A, defeating the Rhinos Milano with a convincing performance, despite some struggles in the second and third quarters.

The home team had a blazing start, scoring three consecutive touchdowns in the first quarter: Luke Zahradka took the spotlight with two TD passes to Niccolò Pulsinelli and Danny Kittner, along with a rushing touchdown. Lorenzo Masini was perfect on kicks, making it 21-0, seemingly putting the game to rest early.

However, in the second quarter, the Rhinos fought back, narrowing the gap with a TD pass from Marquez McCray to Jordan Bouah, followed by another successful throw to Tamsir Seck (conversions by Giacomo Sarra). The teams went into halftime at 21-14, with the game still open.

The third quarter was a defensive showdown, with neither team managing to score. But in the final quarter, the Frogs put the game away: Zahradka rushed for his second TD, and Kittner caught another touchdown pass, with Masini maintaining his perfect streak on kicks.

The Frogs remain in control of Group A, while the Rhinos slip further from playoff contention.

PANTHERS PARMA VS WARRIORS BOLOGNA 45-6

A one-sided match in the Emilia derby, heavily influenced by the bad weather, which made the field barely playable. The reigning champions, the Panthers, had no trouble against Bologna, delivering a dominant rushing performance.

In the first half, the absolute star was Jaylin Parnell, who scored three rushing touchdowns and converted a two-point attempt, setting the score at 23-0 at halftime.

The Warriors’ only spark came in the third quarter, when Gael Laurent broke free for a spectacular 60-yard touchdown run, cutting the deficit. But the Panthers responded immediately: Dominick Fiscelli scored twice on the ground, with successful conversions from Marian Cebotaru and Fiscelli himself.

The final word came from the Panthers’ defense, as Samuele Brunetti returned a pick-six for 80 yards, sealing the 45-6 win.

Parma is back in the hunt for the top spot, while the Warriors suffer another heavy defeat.

MARINES LAZIO VS AQUILE FERRARA 14-6

The Marines secured their first win of the season, narrowly defeating Aquile Ferrara in an extremely tight defensive battle.

The Aquile struck first in the second quarter, with a TD pass from Aaron Allen to Jacopo Bindini, who found a gap in the Lazio secondary. However, a botched snap denied the extra point, leaving the score at 6-0.

Shortly after, the Marines took the lead, with a TD pass from Josiah Norwood to Michele Costa, followed by a precise kick from Jacopo Impallomeni, making it 7-6.

The score remained unchanged until the fourth quarter, with both defenses shutting down opposing offenses. Finally, in the decisive moment, Norwood connected with Costa again, and Impallomeni nailed the extra point.

The Aquile made a last push, but the Marines’ defense held strong, sealing their first win, while Ferrara remains winless at 0-4, sitting at the bottom of Group B.

PIRATES ALBISOLA VS GIAGUARI TORINO 29-39

A much closer game than expected in Albisola Superiore, where the Pirates nearly pulled off an upset against the Giaguari Torino, who now share the top spot in Group B with Guelfi Firenze.

Torino came out firing, taking a 17-0 lead in the first quarter, thanks to two TD passes from Evan Lewandoski to Till Pirtle and Luciano Giuliani, with Jacopo Salsa converting both and adding a 33-yard field goal.

But the Pirates refused to back down and mounted an unexpected comeback: Jordy Baidal played lights-out, throwing three TD passestwo to Filippo Fiammenghi and one to Matteo Fusetti, with Stefano Raffaelli perfect on conversions. By halftime, the scoreboard read 21-24.

In the second half, the Giaguari’s defense tightened up, allowing zero points in the third quarter. Meanwhile, Lewandoski ran for two touchdowns, with Salsa adding both extra points, extending Torino’s lead to 39-21.

The Pirates fought until the final whistle, managing to add 8 more points, thanks to a 20-yard TD reception by Fiammenghi and a two-point conversion by Fusetti, but it wasn’t enough.

The Giaguari remain unbeaten and tied at the top of Group B with the Guelfi Firenze.

IFL WEEK 4: CONFIRMATIONS, SURPRISES, AND A HISTORIC FIRST VICTORY

Rome, March 9, 2025

Dominant defenses, spectacular comebacks, and a thrilling overtime finish: Week 4 of the IFL delivered endless excitement. The Guelfi solidified their lead, the Dolphins overtook the Rhinos, and the Pirates celebrated their first historic victory in the top division.

The fourth week of the Italian Football League (IFL) featured intense matchups, strong defensive performances, and unexpected twists until the final moments of play. Between decisive victories and thrilling comebacks, here’s a detailed recap of Week 4.

Rhinos Milano vs Dolphins Ancona 9-28

A much closer game than the score suggests, at least for three quarters, with defenses taking center stage. Milan struggled significantly on offense, unable to find gaps in Ancona’s solid defense, which dominated both the run and the pass. The Dolphins started with precision and discipline, securing a two-score lead in the first quarter thanks to two TD passes from Blake Eaton to Tyler Terhark and Teo Flamini, with Matteo Dazzani converting both (14-0). In the second half, the Rhinos attempted a comeback with a 70-yard pick-six by Marco Olivas, but a missed conversion hindered their efforts. A field goal by Giacomo Serra narrowed the gap, but Ancona regained momentum at the crucial moment: two more TD passes from Eaton to Dazzani sealed the game at 28-9. With this victory, the Dolphins move ahead of the Rhinos in Group A standings.

Aquile Ferrara vs Guelfi Firenze 30-47

After a scoreless first quarter, the game came to life in the second period with a TD pass from Andrea Fimiani to Frankie Stola, followed by a punt return touchdown by Stola himself (Francesco Camorani converted both for a 14-0 lead). The Aquile responded with a stunning catch by One Williams on a pass from Aaron Allen, followed by a two-point conversion after a defensive penalty (14-8). The Guelfi, however, picked up the pace and struck twice before halftime, with Fimiani finding Mibelli and Stola again in the end zone. Camorani remained perfect, and the scoreboard read 28-8. In the second half, Florence continued to dominate with touchdowns from Cosimo Casati and Fimiani on a run, extending the lead to 41-8. With the game nearly decided, the Aquile closed the gap with three TD passes from Allen to Leonardo Pasquotto, Pietro Fabro, and Williams, while the Guelfi sealed the win with a Eystin Salum pass to Nicolò Formosa. Florence remains unbeaten at the top of Group B.

Pirates Albisola vs Marines Lazio 24-17

After a tough debut loss and two bye weeks, the Pirates returned to the field for their first-ever home game and secured their first IFL victory in a hard-fought contest decided in overtime. In the first half, defenses dominated, with both teams scoring only via field goals. In the second half, the Pirates took the lead with a one-yard run by Lawrence Dalla Betta, converted by Stefano Raffaelli. The Marines responded immediately as Josiah Norwood connected with Michele Costa for a touchdown, with Jacopo Impallomeni converting. Early in the fourth quarter, the Marines pulled ahead again with another Norwood TD pass to Zane Thornton. But the Pirates refused to back down, tying the game with a Dalla Betta run with two minutes left, sending the match into overtime. The Marines failed to score on their offensive drive, while the Pirates clinched victory with a Jordi Macial Baidal TD pass to Matteo Fusetti, followed by Raffaelli’s successful conversion—marking a historic first win for the Ligurian franchise in the IFL.

Giaguari Torino vs Skorpions Varese 31-7

Both offenses started cautiously, but the Giaguari broke the deadlock with a spectacular punt return: Tavion McCarthy dashed 70 yards for the game’s first TD, with Jacopo Salsa converting (7-0). In the second quarter, Varese equalized with a QB Hamish McClure rushing touchdown and a Stefano Granelli conversion, but before halftime, Torino regained the lead with a 40-yard TD pass from Evan Lewandoski to McCarthy, who secured his second score of the game. In the second half, the Giaguari’s defense shut down the Skorpions, while the offense managed the game and extended the lead with a Giovanni La Rocca rushing TD, a Salsa field goal, and another Tommaso Tenconi rushing touchdown. The Giaguari now hold second place in Group B, trailing only the Guelfi Firenze.

SUCCESS FOR THE THIRD BUSINESS FORUM HOSTED BY FIDAF & RGP

On February 13th, in Florence, the third Italian Business Forum organized by Fidaf and RGP Northwestern Ohio took place, drawing an impressive turnout of around a hundred attendees, including companies and professionals. The event was particularly enriched by speeches from the President of the Tuscany Region, Eugenio Giani, the U.S. Consul Generale in Florence, Daniela Ballard, Florence City Councilors Perini and Vicini, the Vice President of Confindustria Toscana Centro e Costa, Roberto Naldi, and the spokesperson for the Florence Chamber of Commerce, Luca Ribechini.

Fidaf expressed great satisfaction with the success of the third Business Forum, held in the beautiful venue of the Fondazione Biblioteche CRF in Florence, in collaboration with RGP Northwestern Ohio and under the patronage of the Tuscany Region, the City of Florence, the Florence Chamber of Commerce, and the U.S. Consulate General in Florence.

The event welcomed around one hundred participants, confirming the appeal of this exclusive format that seamlessly brings together sports, institutions, and entrepreneurship for an afternoon of productive synergy. Particularly well-received were the speeches from institutional representatives, especially that of Tuscany Region President Eugenio Giani, a passionate sports enthusiast and an excellent “biographer” of the Guelfi Firenze football team. He meticulously recounted the team’s 25-year history, which was celebrated at the end of the event. Equally significant was the speech by U.S. Consul General in Florence, Daniela Ballard, who thanked Fidaf for creating this vital moment of discussion and networking between Italy and the United States, extending beyond just sports.

Roberto Naldi, speaking as Vice President of Confindustria Toscana Centro e Costa, provided valuable insights into the numbers and potential of the Tuscan business landscape, with strong support from both Luca Ribechini, spokesperson for the Florence Chamber of Commerce, and Florence City Councilors for Economic Development and Sports, Jacopo Vicini and Letizia Perini.

RGP Northwestern Ohio, the title sponsor of the IFL, was represented by Paul Zito, Vice President of International Development, who illustrated the economic potential of Ohio and the Toledo area. He highlighted opportunities for companies looking to do business with and in the United States, covering aspects such as taxation, legal frameworks, and workforce dynamics.

Three case studies were presented:

  • GVS Group, a global leader in filtration solutions for industries such as Healthcare & Life Sciences, Energy & Mobility, and Health & Safety, with an operational site near Toledo.
  • Secur&Secur Network, a company boasting key international patents in security and safety equipment.
  • NatPower H, a global leader in innovative infrastructure for green hydrogen production, storage, and distribution. It is part of the NatPower Group, an independent developer of infrastructure projects focused on clean energy, supporting businesses, utilities, and investors worldwide.

Sports, and American football in particular, provided the backdrop for the entire event. The surprise appearance of Giovanni Galli, a World Cup Champion with the Italian national soccer team in 1982 and a proud Tuscan, further elevated an already prestigious guest list. Galli was invited by NatPower to attend.

The afternoon concluded with a networking session and a celebratory moment marking the 25th anniversary of the Guelfi Firenze football team. Several team executives, coaches, and players were in attendance.

The next Business Forum is scheduled to take place in Rome on May 5th at the Rome City Institute (Lungotevere Arnaldo da Brescia, 15). This time, FIDAF will shift the focus to the world of academic training under the theme: “Working Together with Business, Academia, and Sport for the Workforce of the Future.”

The full program and registration details will be announced soon.

Just a week after the NFL season wrapped up with Super Bowl LVIII and the Philadelphia Eagles crowned champions, American football fans in Italy can shift their attention to the teams and athletes hitting the field nationwide. The IFL, Italy’s “Serie A” of American football, is kicking off earlier than usual this year, returning to a 12-team format after several seasons.

Returning to the top division are the Lions Bergamo, a team with a rich history of championships in Italy. Meanwhile, the Aquile Ferrara and Pirates 1984 Albisola S. make their first-ever appearances in the league, while the Warriors Bologna secure their spot once again. The tournament format has also changed: teams are now split into two groups, playing home and away matchups for a total of 10 regular-season games per team.

Week 1 Schedule: A Weekend Packed with Action

The season begins this weekend, with all teams taking the field.

  • The action kicks off on Saturday afternoon as last season’s runners-up, the Guelfi Firenze, host the debuting Pirates 1984 Albisola S. at 3:00 PM CET. The game will be attended by FIDAF’s American partners from RGP Northwestern Ohio, which remains the league’s Title Sponsor this year.
  • Later that evening, at 6:00 PM CET, the Frogs Legnano will reignite the lights of Stadio Mari in Legnano, a historic venue for the team, as they face the Dolphins Ancona.

On Sunday, four matchups complete the first week:

  • At 2:00 PM CET, the Rhinos Milano will take on the Warriors Bologna at Vigorelli Stadium in Milan, while at the same time in Bergamo, the Lions will make their return to the top division against the defending champions, the Panthers Parma, in what promises to be an intense “feline” derby.
  • At 2:30 PM CET, the Skorpions Varese will make their home debut at Franco Ossola Stadium, testing the Aquile Ferrara in the Game of the Week.
  • Meanwhile, in Beinasco (Turin), also at 2:30 PM CET, the Giaguari Torino will battle the Lazio Marines.

A Season Full of Surprises and an Exciting Road to the Italian Bowl

With months of preparation behind the scenes, anticipation is high to see how teams stack up in a league that grows more competitive each year. Italian rosters feature many new faces, but also several returning stars, with the international player market still in motion.

The ultimate goal? The prestigious Italian Bowl #44, set for June 28 at the Glass Bowl in Toledo, Ohio. Preparations in Toledo are well underway, with exciting surprises in store for fans.
